Husband brought home flowers... and a 20, page document on my 'emotional labor'

Last week I was at Home Depot picking up paint for my cousin’s bedroom when I saw a couple arguing near the gardening section. The woman was in tears, and the man was saying something like You never listen to me but I know what’s best for us. It just broke my heart because I’ve been there before, carrying the weight of two cultures while trying to make it work.

My husband’s family doesn’t even like that I work full, time, let alone that I expect equal say in decisions big or small. Some days I feel like a ghost in my own life, balancing his needs with mine while also being the only one translating for his parents when they call. Has anyone else felt like their voice gets lost in the noise of cultural expectations and love? How do you guys set boundaries without feeling like you’re failing your family?
